The Kentucky Teaching and Learning
Conference
Louisville - 2003 For
over a decade, the Kentucky Educational Technology Conference was one of the
premiere educational technology conferences in the country. Renamed the Kentucky
Teaching and Learning Conference two years ago, the focus has shifted to
include general educational interests. Running Thursday, March 6 to
Saturday, March 8, the weekdays of the conference are set
aside by the Kentucky Department of Education's academic calendar, so that
all teachers might attend.
Although the concurrent sessions are not listed as of this
writing, the workshops are, and several are mentioned below. Register now,
before things fill up! See you in Louisville!

 AATE
Online
http://www.aate.com/ The
American Alliance for Theatre and Education provides this web source. Most
interesting is their Creative Drama Crisis Control (click on CDCC) - a series of dramatic
exercises which are quite usable in a variety of settings, including drama
clubs and self-expression lessons. [editor's note: CDCC does not seem
to be available any longer. The site still provides many hyperlinks
under "Resources."] Selected
Arts Workshops at KTLC:
- Graphic Design in the Classroom - Adam Brewer
- Free Spirit Drumming and Creative Arts - Phyllis
Free
- Clay Animation - Diana Siler

Media
Awareness Network
http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/ There
are a wide range of literacies. As language arts teachers, our first
responsibility is towards teaching the written word. But what can (and
will) students learn from the large number of other media to which they're
exposed? What sort of "literacy" is associated with this use?
This Canadian website represents the not-for-profit organization of the
same name, with ties to public education and the National Film Board of
Canada, among others. There are thoughtful observations, lesson plans, and
"teachable moments" useful with major media events. Selected

- iMovie: Moviemaking Made Easy - Christine
McIntosh

on line, and the Teacher's section includes lesson guides for each,
developed by Johns Hopkins University's Talent Development Middle
