The Help DeskOn May 2nd, 2002...the first edition of this newsletter (then titled "The Help Desk") rolled off the "presses" - funded then by the Partnership for Kentucky Schools in support of the Kentucky Teacher Academies. This edition of The E-Line continues that support tradition.

The Kentucky Summer Teacher Academies! Offered as 5-day experiences with follow-up, the Academies are aimed at giving teachers a hands-on experience creating, developing, and modeling standards-based instructional content, learning more in a teacher's subject area, and establishing a learning community in support of developing teacher's leadership skills. Many pay a stipend.

This edition of The E-Line is a listing of the Academies offered for 2005, most of which are still open. Deadlines for most of the Academies are late April through mid May. Some are already full - be sure to sign up soon!

The Arts
The Kentucky Center Arts Academies - http://www.kentuckycenter.org/education/kiae.asp

The Kentucky Center for the ArtsNow in its fourth year, the Kentucky Center Arts Academies are a summer tradition, and provide an excellent opportunity for arts and humanities teachers to develop their skills and ideas.

  • When: Multiple, covering the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks in June

Algebraic Thinking in the Middle Grades  

Western Kentucky University's Wanda Weidemann offers this outing in the use of active learning for algebra and pre-algebra instruction in middle school.
